Why the maker matters
For a craft product, the person is the proof. A buyer abroad cannot judge the material or the finish from a photograph, but they can judge whether someone has spent a life on it — and that is what decides the price they will accept.
A catalogue shows the object. A film shows the workshop, the tools, the failures and the decisions. That is what makes the object worth what it costs.
How it works
- Find the part of the process that carries the story — usually one step, not all of them.
- Shoot in the workshop as the work happens, rather than reconstructing it afterwards.
- Cut a short film and a set of stills from the same visit.
- Write the English copy so the film and the page tell the same story in the same order.
Common questions
We are a small workshop. Is this for us?
It is more useful for a small workshop than a large one. Where there is no brand budget, the maker is the brand.
How long does a shoot take?
Usually a day, sometimes two if the process has stages that cannot happen on the same day.
Can we use it at a trade show?
Yes. We cut a short version for a stand and a longer one for the site, from the same material.
